Why the Until Dawn PS5 Remake Left Me Screaming but for All the Wrong Reasons

When the Until Dawn remake for PS5 was announced, I was hyped. I do remember playing the original version back in year 2015, curled up on the my couch with the lights off, jumping out of my skin at every little scary scene come up. The idea of reliving that experience on PS5 and I was all in.

But now that it’s here, I gotta say… Until Dawn PS5 Remake Left Me Screaming but for All the Wrong Reasons.

Until Dawn PS5 Remake is a Haunting Misfire

Nowadays where remakes, remasters, and reboots are everywhere. It feels like every other month, and while some of them hit the mark, others just miss the point. Until Dawn on PS5 unfortunately falls into the latter category.

Also, we already have a perfectly good version of Until Dawn on PS4. Thanks to backwards compatibility, you can pop it right into your PS5 and enjoy the original game without any issues. So, when they decided to remake this thing from scratch—just nine years after the original release—it felt, well, unnecessary, now that it’s out, It’s hard to ignore the glaring flaws.

So, Why remake something that’s already perfectly playable?

On paper, You’d think this thing would be a visual treat But nope. Not even 20 minutes in, I noticed one of the main characters’ lip-syncing was off.

In a horror game, where every little detail can break the immersion, that’s just unforgivable.

Now Let’s talk about those load times. On PS5 load times should be practically eliminated, but nope.

Couple that with new clunky controls and an unreliable framerate, and that marked this game a true disaster.

If you are long time Playstation player, you already know that there are so many other games in PlayStation’s vault that could’ve really benefited from a remake.

Imagine a fully remastered Resistance trilogy or even the early God of War games. With Kratos’ resurgence in popularity, how awesome would it be for new fans to experience his Greek origins in all their brutal glory?

But instead, we get Until Dawn, a game that already holds up pretty well on its own.

And look, I get it—remakes aren’t easy. You can’t just slighly increase graphic quality and call it a day.

But when you’re remaking something as fresh as Until Dawn, you’ve got no room for error. The bar is already high for you, and unfortunately, this one trips over it.

Sure, Sure, post-launch patches might swoop in to fix the bugs, but that doesn’t help those of us who were excited to play this interactive horror right now.

What bugs me most is thinking about all the people who will experience Until Dawn for the first time through this remake.

This isn’t the version they deserve. Instead of discussing the cool new features, I’m here pointing people back to the original PS4 version.

Because, even after this next-gen remaster, it’s still the better way to experience this campy, teen-horror classic so if you want the best Until Dawn experience, dust off that PS4 copy and enjoy it the way it was meant to be played.
