This Wierd mod turns Black Myth: Wukong’s Into A First-Person Shooter

Mods can do some cool stuff, right? Usually, they tweak gameplay or let you swap out characters for fun alternatives—like turning the Monkey King into Goku. But turning Black Myth: Wukong into a first-person shooter? That’s a whole other level of absurd.

When I first saw videos of the mod, I had one question: Why? Why would someone feel the need to throw guns into a game that’s all about ancient Chinese legends and epic battles?

But hey, modders are gonna mod, and the results are absolutely bonkers.

Apparently, videos of this wild transformation are popping up all over the Black Myth subreddit and on the Chinese platform Bilibili.

Wukong with FPS mod

It started out as an attempt to see what the game would look like from a first-person perspective—just a casual experiment. But somewhere along the way, it spiraled into a full-blown first-person shooter.

According to its creator, it’s super immersive and adds a whole new level of challenge. I mean, I guess if you’re mowing down enemies from across the map before they even get a chance to blink, that’s one way to adds up the intensity in the game, right?

Personally, though, I’m not sure I’d want to experience Black Myth this way. The original game is grounded in its mythology, and much of its charm comes from its dedication to that mythos.

Seeing it turned into a shooter feels like breaking something delicate and its definitely doesn’t feel like immersive.

But who’s to say this doesn’t open doors for future experimentation? It’s almost like discovering a new way to tell an old story—a bizarre, off-the-wall interpretation of the Monkey King’s journey. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but it certainly gets you thinking about where games could go when modders get free hand with their favorite games.

Speaking of the future, the developers at Game Science seem focused on more traditional plans for now. Reports suggest they’re working on DLC for Black Myth: Wukong, with a possible release as early as 2025.

Will this expansion build on the game’s rich narrative, or introduce some new mechanics?

It’s hard to say, but I’m hoping they double down on the elements that made the base game so memorable—its mythology, its atmosphere, and its challenging combat.

Until then, the modding community continues to do what it does best—keep us surprised, curious, and sometimes scratching our heads in confusion at what hell did we just installed.

And It doesn’t matter if you or I think the Black Myth FPS mod is brilliant or ridiculous. This is just one of many examples of how a game can be turned into something entirely different thing in the hands of PC Gamers (Remember Skyrim? Oh, what am I saying – of course you do).
