If you’ve been around the Dragon Age block long enough, you’ve probably noticed that these Qunari never quite stick to one look. It’s like each game gives them a whole new wardrobe—one minute you’ve got Sten in Dragon Age: Origins, all brooding and human-looking, then In Dragon Age 2, the Arishok shows up, looking like something out of a nightmare.
Don’t even get me started on Iron Bull in Inquisition.
Now, with The Veilguard, BioWare is giving us yet another take on the Qunari, and, surprise surprise, some people aren’t thrilled.
So, what’s the beef? Some fans are saying The Veilguard’s Qunari look a bit too… well, human.
Yeah, you heard me. Apparently, they’re being called “humans with horns and big foreheads.” I mean, if I had a nickel for every time a game character was accused of being “too human,” I could probably buy a DLC.
People have been comparing the new designs to the Arishok from Dragon Age 2, and let’s just say it’s not exactly a fair fight.
But BioWare isn’t just letting this slide.
Over the weekend, Derek Wiles, one of the cinematic designers, decided to jump into the fray. He took to social media to clear things up and—honestly?—I can respect that.
Wiles pointed out that one of the comparison photos making the rounds online was of a Qunari made using the character creator.
So, yeah, that “human with horns” look? Someone literally made it that way. That’s like blaming the mirror for your bedhead.
It’s not how every Qunari is gonna look in the game, just one person’s creation.
Wiles also made a great point about the Arishok in Dragon Age 2.
That dude was a custom model, built just for him. You couldn’t recreate his look in any Dragon Age character creator even if you tried.
So comparing him to a player-designed Qunari from The Veilguard? It’s kind of like comparing a store-bought cake to a homemade one—it’s just not the same recipe.
Now, we’re still about a month out from The Veilguard’s release, which means we won’t get to mess around with the character creator for a little while yet so hard to confirm the claim.
But I’ve gotta admit, I’m getting pretty hyped since word is that this character creator is going to blow Inquisition’s out of the water, with way more options to make your Qunari exactly how you want.
I’m talking next-level customization here—like choosing everything from horn style to, fingers crossed, maybe even shrinking that famously massive Qunari forehead a bit.
Personally, I’m hoping to create a Qunari that can finally bridge the gap between looking fearsome and not getting stuck in doorways because of oversized headgear.
