AL’ Right, fellow Dragon Age fans, let’s talk about the really important stuff: romance options in The Veilguard!
If you’re anything like me, you’ve no doubt already picked out your in-game crushes. I mean, who isn’t already daydreaming about all the swoon-worthy characters we’ll get to flirt with?
The Dragon Age series just nails character development, making us love these pixelated sweethearts. I bet you still remember the heated debates of Leliana vs. Morrigan, no doubt causing some great arguments during your friend group discussions.
Don’t worry if it hasn’t—consider yourself lucky!
Now, our protagonist, Rook, is going to have some seriously interesting companions—yes, you will be able to romance them.
If you are deep into lore and in the process of reading Tevinter Nights, several of them will be known to you. But even otherwise, there’s much to look out for.
Well, BioWare’s got us covered with more details rolling out during “Companions Week” starting on August 26.
But until then, here’s the lowdown on how romance might shape up in the game.
How Romance Works in The Veilguard
Romancing your companions in The Veilguard seems like it’s going to go about the same way as Dragon Age: Inquisition did.
You will learn about your companions, complete quests that reveal their backgrounds, and obviously, drop a few flirts when the time is right.
Here’s where things get interesting: all seven of Rook’s companions are pansexual! That means you can romance regardless of your race or gender.
But, if you don’t romance someone, don’t be surprised when they all pair off with one another.
Remember how Dorian and The Iron Bull had a fling if they weren’t dating the Inquisitor in Inquisition? Yeah, expect more of that. Of course, as with any Dragon Age game, things might get steamy as your relationship progresses. How far those intimate scenes go, however, is something BioWare’s keeping under wraps for now—you’ll have to play to find out!
But for now let’s just discuss the Potential Romance option in this upcoming game.
Meet Your Potential Romances
Now, let’s talk about who you might end up swooning over:
Bellara
She’s an Elf, a mage, and part of the Veil Jumpers.
The woman bears this really cool gauntlet which helps her work magic, and she appears to be pretty upbeat and curious.
Davrin
Another elf, this one’s a Grey Warden with a griffon named Assan. So this guy has a bit of a knight-in-shining-armor thing going on, always a plus in my book.
Emmrich
A human necromancer with a skeleton friend by the name of Manfred. BioWare’s teased that he’s something of a “gentleman necromancer” who deals in sensual, intimate connections.
Lace Harding
You might remember her as Scout Harding from Inquisition.
She’s a dwarf rogue with dry humor, and a heart of gold. Expect her to be one of the first companions you meet in The Veilguard.
Lucanis
A rogue from the Antivan Crows who’s been described as a “bisexual disaster.”
He’s got mystery and swagger oozing out of his pores, and I know some of you are going to love this.
Neve
A human mage and private investigator who happens to work with the Shadow Dragons.
Clever, quick-witted, and very likely to be that one person who screws you over further on down the line. There’s always one, isn’t there?
Taash
A qunari warrior-cum-treasure hunter with a penchant for gold and emeralds, Taash surely can be your new favorite with that confident, swaggering warrior thing she does.
So there you go—your love interests from Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
With these many interesting characters, choosing only one might prove to be a tough call. But hey, that’s the beauty of it—multi-playthroughs, anyone?
