In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you’ve fought terrifying monsters, handled curses, and navigated some of the trickiest moral decisions ever. But if you’re on PlayStation 5, there’s a different kind of “enemy” lurking in your game and no sword or spell will help you this time. Because this time around, Geralt is being haunted by… a blacksmith’s hammer.
This “phantom hammer” isn’t just a fleeting glitch; it’s practically a shadow companion, following Geralt through forests, photobombing his cutscenes, and generally tagging along like a pet that just won’t go home.
The devs at CD Projekt Red (CDPR) are fully aware of it, but they haven’t fixed it and judging by their response in this matter, i don’t think that they ever will.
The Hammer Bug That Refuses to Go Away
While this bug does exist from the time this game released on playstation, recently it was brought back into the limelight thanks to a Reddit user, Idratherhikeout, who shared their hammer-haunted journey.
According to players, the hammer sticks to Geralt through every scene, like that one friend who invites themselves everywhere.
From intense fights to quiet strolls and even into dramatic cutscenes, this hammer just doesn’t quit.
Players (who are affected by this bug) have tried everything to get rid of it, too. Reloading old saves? Nope. Deleting corrupted files? Didn’t work.
Some even went as far as reinstalling the game, but still no luck. So far, there’s no foolproof method to shake off this uninvited “companion,” and some players are left resigned, with the hammer tagging along like an unexpected sidekick.
The hammer bug has become a bit of a legend in the Witcher community, almost like Geralt’s infamous floating horse, Roach.
It’s been around since the game’s early days and has shown up on PC, Xbox, and other platforms over the years, proving that it’s as stubborn as it is strange.
Now, Even with The Witcher 3’s PS5 next gen upgrade, the hammer lives on, making it clear that this glitch has no intention of vanishing anytime soon.
If CDPR Knows About It, Why haven’t they fixed it yet?
But despite all the tweaks and updates this hammer somehow slipped through the cracks.
And CDPR has hinted that they won’t be patching it out anytime soon. Why you ask? Well, because right now they are right now working on the next Witcher game which is codenamed Polaris.
CDPR put a lot of effort into updating and polishing the game, especially with the 2022 Next-Gen Update that gave The Witcher 3 new look for modern consoles.
So in the meantime, the bug lives on.
Nonetheless, fans have embraced the hammer
Simmilar to Floating Roach glitch, Witcher fanbase has kind of adopted the phantom hammer.
They’ve nicknamed it, joked about Geralt’s “phantom buddy,” and shared stories of its antics online.
For some players, the hammer’s become a part of The Witcher 3’s unique charm, giving them a reason to laugh at the game’s quirks.
In a way, accepting this bug as part of gameplay just shows just how much gamers are willing to embrace the little oddities in a game they truly love.
