So, if you’ve been holding your breath, hoping that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would carry over all your tough decisions from Inquisition, I hate to break it to you—only three choices are making the cut.
But don’t worry, your love life is safe—one of those decisions is who your Inquisitor romanced.
The Veilguard has the monumental task of balancing Dragon Age’s massive lore, and let’s face it, after nearly a decade of decisions, it was bound to get a little messy specially if they had decided to import World state from previous Games.
So to avoid undoing any of your past choices, BioWare has boiled it down to just three key decisions from Inquisition.
The Veilguard’s character creator will have an “Adventurer’s Past” section where you’ll get to make some story decisions using tarot cards.
In that section, here’s what you’ll be asked: Did you disband the Inquisition? Did you stop or save Solas? And most importantly—who did your Inquisitor romance?
Ah, the romances… because let’s be real, many of us would start an entire replay of Inquisition just to revisit those steamy moments.
And just like the Dragon Inquisition your Romance is locked your gender and Lineage.
Why Only Three Decisions?
Look, I know this might feel like a pretty short list of choices for a game with so much lore, but BioWare’s actually doing us a solid here.
By limiting the number of decisions, they’re making sure they don’t contradict or undo the weight of your earlier choices with throwaway references.
I think, we don’t really need a tiny line about the random side quest you completed almost a decade ago. Do we?
Instead, BioWare’s keeping it simple to avoid undoing your past choices with meaningless throwaway lines. More importantly, Veilguard is set in Northern Thedas, far from the political chaos of the South where Inquisition took place.
Most of your Southern decisions won’t even matter up here, so the team can focus on telling a fresh story.
So, while this might be a little disappointing to the die-hard Dragon Age fans who were hoping to see their every decision come to life, there’s still plenty to look forward to.
We’re getting a brand-new Thedas locations to explore, with new characters, new drama, and hopefully, new epic battles.
But what do you think—are these three choices enough to shape The Veilguard into the Dragon Age experience we’ve been waiting for?
