Is God of War Ragnarok is compatible with Steam Deck?

Is Your Steam Deck Ready to Face Kratos’ Wrath? Let’s Discuss God of War Ragnarok Compatibility and Performance on Valve’s Handheld Console.

So, you’re curious if God of War: Ragnarok will play nice with your Steam Deck, huh? I mean, we all know Kratos can take down gods, but can Valve’s little handheld take down the game without turning into a portable brick?

Well, if that’s the case, I’ve got some good news for you!

Even though some recent PS5-to-PC ports have had, let’s call them “rough patches,” God of War: Ragnarok has made it through with flying colors.

To put in few simple words God of War Rangnarok is now officially “Verified” on the Steam Deck.

And along with Steam Verified badge this tweet from Santa Monica Studio confirmed this.

Why the Hype for Steam Deck Compatibility?

If you’re anything like me (A proud Steam Deck Owner), the minute you heard God of War: Ragnarok was coming to PC, you were already imagining playing it on the go.

I’ve been dragging my Steam Deck everywhere—couch, train, the kitchen while I pretend to “cook.” And now, Ragnarok is officially “Verified,” which is basically Valve’s way of saying, “Yep, this runs great on our handheld, go for it!”

One more thing to note down if you are preparing to play this game either on PC or Steam console that, in order to play it you have to link your PSN account.

It’s a small hassle, but definitely not a deal-breaker.

But, What About Performance?

Now, when I first glanced at the system requirements for Ragnarok, I’ll be honest—I was sweating for my Steam Deck. I mean, it’s not exactly brand-new tech anymore.

And let me tell you, after the nightmare of trying to get Horizon Forbidden West to run smoothly on the Deck (I might’ve thrown a few “controller-breaking” looks at it), I wasn’t holding my breath. Horizon is still marked “Unsupported,” and fiddling with settings was like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube in the dark.

But! Surprise, surprise—God of War: Ragnarok comes with AMD FSR 3.2 support.

It makes the whole thing feel smoother. This upscaling tech helps boost frame rates, which is perfect for handheld play.

Sure, frame generation doesn’t work as well at lower frame rates, but at least it’s there, keeping things pretty steady without forcing you explore into endless settings menus.

Comparison with a few other similar Sony ports

Remember when Horizon Forbidden West and Ragnarok dropped on PS5 around the same time?

Sony's port to steam console

I was sweating bullets trying to get Horizon to work on the Deck, and Valve’s still slapped it with the big “Unsupported” sticker.

I honestly thought Ragnarok might meet the same fate, but nope! It swerved that disaster and got the green light.

And then there’s Ghost of Tsushima, another jaw-droppingly beautiful game. But then it ran into issues on the Deck because of its online co-op mode.

Valve wasn’t having any of it, and —Unsupported again.

Lucky for us, God of War: Ragnarok doesn’t mess with multiplayer nonsense

My final Verdict

So, what’s the final word? If you’ve been holding your breath, wondering if your Steam Deck can handle God of War: Ragnarok, you can finally exhale.

It’s got the official “Verified” stamp, and it’s running smoothly.

Yeah, you’ll have to go through the annoyance of linking your Sony account (like an unexpected boss fight IRL), but once you’re past that, it’s smooth sailing into Kratos’ latest adventure.
